6. European Stainless Steel Conference - Helsinki - Short report
I would like to state that I have attended the 6th European Stainless Steel Conference held on 10-13 June 2008 and the Euro Inox Brussels General Assembly held on 10 June 2008.
In the Euro Inox Stainless Steel Association General Assembly, the Board of Members was released and Dr. Alfred Otto was re-assigned as the Chairman together with the same officers. Reports and minutes of the meeting regarding this subject will be sent to PASDER since it is a member too. I will present them to you when received.
The 6th European Stainless Steel Conference has been held in 4 separate halls before approximately 300 audiences. I am shortly mentioning below the information I have received and the subjects discussed in the parts I have attended as an audience and according to the order of importance since subjects are very intense and various:
The Stainless Steel production in 2007 was analyzed in the European and Global platforms, accordingly 27.3 million tons of liquid stainless steel was produced.
Ferritic solution has been produced against 200' series which is mentioned as an alternative for especially ''austenite'' qualities for production productivity and to decrease costs, and the saturating features of the homogeneities of ferritic AISI 409 L and Duplex 2205 qualities have been emphasized. Thus, it is tried to find ways which increase and facilitate alternative choices of the users via concentrating on production of these qualities in future.
Intense activities are realized regarding significantly expanding the use area via meeting the needs of buildings and architecture using stainless steel materials. It is guaranteed depending on scientific data to realize profitability by especially giving important examples in these fields.
It was stated that Duplex stainless steel has started to be used in architecture and construction of tankers-ships necessary for transporting chemical materials via sea.
